If you have Microsoft Word (v6.0 or higher) installed in your system, WordWiz provides an option to let you use the thesaurus as if it were an extra clue library. This will provide automatic clues for many (but not all) of the words, (in any wordlist). It is also can help you write your own clues by providing easy access to the synonyms for the word.
| To activate this feature, Click the
"Clue Lib" button on the main tool bar to open
the "Clue Library Configuration" window. Then
check the "Enable Synonym Look-up" box. This
will cause the MS Word thesaurus to be added as an 11th
clue library. You can use the
MOVE UP and MOVE DOWN buttons to position the thesaurus
either in front of, or behind your regular libraries.
When WordWiz needs to find a clue for a word, the program
checks each library in the list, starting at the top, and
stops as soon as it finds a clue for the word. (or hits
the "stop search here" line. |

| Importing clues from ascii text files. |
You can add clues to any of the 10 clue libraries by creating an ASCII text file, and then importing the file with WordWiz.
First, create a plain ASCII text file (using
NOTEPAD, or any other plain text editor) in the following general
format:
{word}{separator character}{clue text}
Replace {word}
with the word to be clued.
Replace {separator character} with any
of the following characters: = , :
Spaces may optionally appear before or after the {separator
character}
Use a new line for each new {word}
The case of {word} in not important. The case of {clue
text} will be preserved.
The {clue text} may include punctuation or other
special characters.
Example:
TWO:five minus three
three = twelve / four
Four, Two plus two.
After you have created the clue import file, select "FILE / Import Clues.." from the main menu. The "Clue Library Configuration" window will appear. (see example above). Before closing the window, make sure the clue library where you want the clues to be saved is selected in the "Save Clues changed in word-box in" option. \
When you click OK, You will be asked to select
the name of the import file. Choose the file to be imported, and
click OPEN.
The import process will then run. Each word will be added to the
current word bank. Each clue will be saved in the selected
library. If the library already contained a clue for a word being
imported, the old clue is REPLACED. The clues in the library are
automatically saved. You may wish to also save the expanded word
bank, but this is not done automatically.
